Back in Baku

I arrived in Dubai around 2am and was lucky enough to find a stretcher in the “Quiet Lounge” where I guess I slept for two hours. That probably meant I had around 8 hours sleep over the previous 24 hours - my body didn’t quite believe it however.

TISA profile

After all this time here’s some current data on The International School of Azerbaijan where I teach.

The school is organised into three sections:

The Baku Toddler Club (Age 2) - 35 children
The Primary School (ages 3-10) - 350 students
Secondary School (ages 11-18) - 200 students

Over 48 nationalities are represented in the total enrollment.

Sharing the wisdom of those who have gone before

I’m increasingly convinced that the most important things my grade 5 students learn do not include subject content.  I reckon it does include attitudes, conflict management, time-management, self-confidence, seeing themselves as learners…  That’s not to discount the value of curriculum, but learning to learn and gaining life-skills are probably even more important.
