Some of the kids in Grade 5

June 16th, 2008 · No Comments

This is one of our regular grade meetings.  There are two classes each with around 16 students.  Michael, the other teacher is top right. There are now 4 days left of teaching!  Even though the students are great kids the summer (winter in Adelaide) break will be appreciated.

The Beirut

June 11th, 2008 · No Comments

Last night Chee Wan (early childhood teacher), Gillian (MYP co-ordinator) and I had tea at the Lebanese Restaurant, Beirut. It had great ambience, friendly waiters with good English and a large TV screen showing Arab pop videos that were modelled on western videos. e.g. woman singing song, showing her anger at a male who [...]

May 14th, 2008 · 9 Comments

The morning of the Exhibition! Final touches are put to the displays. I was rather proud of the kids today as they presented at their stands. They presented at an Assembly to parents and other invited guests, with scripts that gave some information from what they had learned in this unit. [...]

I don’t have photos yet but Michael and I with Natasha have put up our teaching time-line and teaching process display for the Exhibition. We’ve also included a display on the Student Profile, which is jargon for the characteristics that we believe students should have in the PYP. Monday we get to [...]

Re-authorisation visit to TISA

May 5th, 2008 · No Comments

Today the school re-authorisation visit began by two men from the Primary Years Program.
We are a well-established school so there are only two of them but I understand that four is more common. They have meetings all day for three days, including the P8 team for the Exhibition (that’s Michael and me) as well [...]

The Exhibition draws near

May 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

The kids are working incredibly well, with great energy for all the various tasks remaining. In the last two days they’ve starting working en masse on art pieces in the corridor. We rolled out 15m of plastic sheeting and out came the glue, paints, canvasses and brushes along with overhead projectors. Some [...]

The wonder of the heavens

April 26th, 2008 · No Comments

On Google Earth I wandered into the Sky part this afternoon and went looking at Hubble’s farthest photos with one million second exposures - photons arriving at one per second for the outer galaxies.  Thought the the following was good to record for my students, from Earth and Sky.
_________
Martin Rees also said: We’ve made [...]
