Having completed two days of THRASS (teaching Handwriting, Reading and Spelling Skills) on this past weekend and now having started 10 weeks of ESL in the Mainstream, I’m feeling like a student again and preparing myself for nights at the desk doing assignments and reflections.  If I start a Masters next year I’ll be just finishing the ESL course when the Masters starts.

There’s only two weeks until the kids have open house and student-led conferences with their parents.  Time is amazingly short. It’s also the time when reports have to be done.  I guess that will take care of next weekend.

    Hi Leigh!

What did you think of the THRASS program? We did it here in Ceduna many years ago. It’s very similar to the Dyslexia programs I’ve used – I think it has its origins there anyway. Didn’t find it all that useful here, but then I didn’t use it in a classroom setting.

The end of year looms, and staff here are also beginning report writing. Looking forward to holidays…

Same here. Reports on the way but they are more managable than in my time at Crossways. THRASS was very detailed and perhaps a little too detailed for most kids who read books at home and pick up stuff naturally. It must be excellent for those kids who have trouble learning the graphemes, phonemes,..

I enjoy their chart, the one I used in the classroom last year, with your help I think, I will use that again for my struggling spellers, once the material comes in. That’s takes some time here.
