Lack of news in English in Azerbaijan

The following is a worry:

  • Eynulla Fatullayev, founder of two papers and vocal opponent to the rule of the President, has been imprisoned for 8.5 years. ref
  • An Azerbaijani Interior Ministry official, ordered the murder last year of an opposition journalist on behalf of then Economic Development Minister Farhad Aliyev. ref The accused denies the accusation and of course may have been setup as a result of not pleading guilty to another charge.
  • Journalist Sakit Zahidov goes on hunger strike after transfer back to filthy prison.
  • Azerbaijani newspaper editor Genimet Zahidov of the prominent opposition daily Azadlig (Freedom) was given two months of pre-trial detention

In addition, no doubt I’ve not done a thorough search, but it’s rather hard finding any online English news about Azerbaijan. Help me out if you can. All the following links offer nothing:

today.az – only goes to August this year

http://www.azerbaijannews.com/ – nothing on Azerbaijan

http://www.azernews.az/site/ – cannot be found

http://www.anspress.com/ – any English is gone

http://www.azerbaijan.com/ - nothing about Azerbaijan

http://www.azerbaijantoday.com/ – just nationalist stuff, no current affairs

http://www.bakusun.az/ - only goes to August this year

http://ourcentury.media-az.com/ – only goes to May 2006

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/usazerb/casp.htm – to 1999

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/1626310.stm I did find this article about a rare exploding volcano, somewhere 15km out of Baku.
