Sumgayit, a city to the north of Baku, which had the world’s highest infant mortality rate in the Soviet days, continues its high polution.

When we went to Xinaliq we passed on the outskirts of the city and only saw hundreds of hectares of buildings and rusting pipes, like a Windows screen saver, on what appeared to be disused industrial sites.
