Farewell to Grade 5’s

June 20th, 2007 · No Comments

Yesterday it was goodbye to Grade 4’s and today Grade 5’s.  School is now over for the students but there’s yet 8 days formally left for teachers.  I’m not quite sure why. There’s only so much planning that can be done so far from the start of the school year.
This morning saw a changed timetable [...]

Moments from Today

June 19th, 2007 · No Comments

As I said ‘goodbye’ to Grade 4 today there were so many rich moments!  How can I convey much of the sadness in the leaving and the blessing of having shared in these children’s lives for a short time. So, just notes:

teaching 20 questions to some classes and singing our hearts out - the [...]

Award Ceremony Folk Dance

June 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Today was the Award Ceremony for the Elementary School. Most of my 5C girls performed a folk dance in national costume, or at least one of the costumes. I mentioned that I saw them last week and promised myself that I’d take the camera. The photo doesn’t do the dance justice but [...]

Tonight, I attended a concert by the middle-elementary music students. It was a lot of fun. I am so proud of my students who have been learning piano, guitar and recorder or singing in the choir. Most of them I didn’t even know that they were learning. Some of my children [...]

More final moments

June 14th, 2007 · No Comments

As my days draw to a close here, every moment has become precious - the smiles of students coming to ask a question, those wanting to teach me a new word, listening to Turkish accents sing Waltzing Matilda, the student delight in learning She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain…
This afternoon, I dropped by the auditorium [...]

Job offer

June 13th, 2007 · No Comments

Well, it hasn’t happened yet, but I’m told that I’m top of the list for a job in a school in this part of the world.  A new Deputy Principal position has been created and it is assumed that an inhouse teacher will apply for the position.  The story is that they will wait a [...]

I was contacted yesterday (Sunday) by the British International School of Jedda, Saudi Arabia, on the Red Sea, to consider interviewing for a position in the primary school. Of course it was a compliment to be asked. I was sent some information and salary package and then spent some time ’surfing’ to [...]
