My latest application is to American International School, Lusaka, Zambia. Earlier in the year I applied for another school that the same school was being parent-school to, in a far flung mining centre but as the only way in was by company plane, which wasn’t happy to take spouses, it didn’t sound like an attractive possibility.
I’ve sent letters to a few Chinese schools and thought about a few like Uzbekistan. I’m still keen on teaching with the Primary Years Program of the International Bacalaureate and there’s quite a few international schools that run that program. The grapevine says that with all the international schools being set up there’s a scarcity of teachers. Time will tell.
There’s only two weeks of teaching here. Exams happen at that point and then there’s two more weeks of a broken schedule with lots of other stuff that takes kids away from the classroom. Even in a regular week the days fly, so, rather soon Istanbul will be just a memory. There’s still a lot I want to see so I have to take advantage of every available day. This Sunday there’s a bus going to Belgrave Forest, north of Istanbul, for a picnic in this national park. We’re told it’s a wonderful place but that everyone else thinks so as well. Hopefully there’s more than standing room.
