It’s Sunday and school starts tomorrow! We’ve had a great time.
Last night however was a low point in the hotel situation. We went low-budget and hired a room in Kayseri which turned out to be rather smokey. In addition it was across the road from a major mosque which started up at 5am with Morning Prayer on the speakers on the minarets. Seemed to me the imam was wrapped up in his own importance as he would sing a very convoluted melody, stretching every syllable to a 30 or 40 notes, with Arabic trills and runs, and then he would wait for the echo to die down around the city and then wait a few more seconds before starting the next phrase. Of course that meant that a short passage (in Arabic - which very few understand) was stretched into many minutes….. all at 5am when you just want to be able to go back to sleep.

Hello Leigh,
I can relate! While in Ethiopia, not only would the Muslim prayers start up at 5:00, the Orthodox churches would also begin broadcasting their prayers at 4:30!
Peace, Mark
