I went to the school’s production of The Leader of the Pack tonight. It was great! Marnie, the School Director’s wife, was the producer, and she said that the students’ English improved enormously since January, when they started rehearsals. To be performing a musical in a second language is quite a feat.
Ellie Greenwich wrote a stack of songs but is an unknown name to me and apparently also to others as the notes indicated. Apart from Dah do ron ron ron, Chapel of Love, Doo wah diddy, she also wrote River Deep Mountain High (collaboratively?). It wasn’t a deep and meaningful experience, but it was so good seeing these kids perform in the school’s first musical. They pulled it off wonderfully. I hope they feel good about themselves. Tonight was the third performance and tomorrow is the last with a matinee.
