399985900_5ac4a56c30.jpgThis shows around 1/3 of the school buses that ferry staff and students to school each day. It might be only a 1/4. There are enormous resources tied up in support structures for the school. Most of these buses just sit in the carpark during the day.

These small buses are one of the popular means to get around Istanbul. They have strictly limited seating whereas the big buses will cram as many as can squeeze in. I’m told you can travel to many places for 1.5YTL (each YTL is a little less than 1A$). It seems there’s two populations here. One lives expensively and one lives frugally. De related that many of her students were amazed that she would take the train. To support this thesis, supermarket shopping is around the same cost as Australia but local market shopping is much cheaper.
